Moda sostenibile: cos’è e perchè è importante

Sustainable fashion has never been talked about as much as it is today.

Increasingly aware and demanding consumers are no longer satisfied with simply wearing beautiful clothes; they also want to know how these garments are produced. They seek assurance that the methods, timelines, and locations of production do not contribute to the deterioration of the planet's environmental conditions or the exploitation of workers. It is well known that many garment industry workers in developing countries are forced to work in miserable and exploitative conditions.

But what exactly is sustainable fashion?

Sustainable fashion respects both the environment and society at every stage: from design and production to distribution and sales.

This approach focuses on using less polluting, renewable raw materials, reducing waste during production, and repurposing existing materials to give them a new life. Extending the lifespan of products, fabrics, and components aligns with the principles of the Circular Economy, which can also be applied to the fashion industry. Why producing and extracting new resources when we can recover industrial waste, fabrics with minor defects that are still perfectly usable, or even unsold stock from stores?

At Seama, we are inspired by the concept of circular and sustainable fashion, leading to the creation of our first collections. These are made from store and industry surplus, as well as post-consumer recovery of sportswear. This is how our first backpacks and single-strap bags were born—crafted from recycled windbreakers and repurposed, sanitized car seatbelts.

Moreover, this model promotes more humane production practices, ensuring fair wages and the elimination of worker exploitation. And this is how our story began.
